I love stories, especially fantasy fiction.
Recently, I just completed reading The Kingkiller Chronicles #1 and #2 and they were amazing. I cannot wait for the third book to come out! Anyway, those two books are good examples of books that I can easily get obsessed with due to the depth of the story, the unexpected twists and turns and especially the character creation. I love it when the author is able to create a character so relatable and so real that somewhat, you thought that you really knew the character.
The Kingkiller Chronicles have amazing characters that are able to pull you into the story by the words they said and the actions that they take. Furthermore, the author was able to maintain a sense of realness about them by allowing the characters to take express in multiple emotions throughout their story in the books, from sadness to anger to happiness to lust and to love. It is such stories that excites me and drags me into its very depths, soon, I find myself engrossed in the story spending hours just reading.
Apart from wonderful character development and creation, I am amazed by the way authors are able to create a whole world including a very solid lore and history. In the Kingkiller Chronicles, there were several key points that the author shared about the history of the land but apart from that, the rest was shrouded in mystery slowly revealing itself one by one as we go through deeper into the story. That kept the books exciting to read because we will never know what adventure would the protaganist embark on.
Another favourite of mine when reading fantasy fiction is the way these characters speak to each other. I am forever amazed by the way one character would approach another and the words that they used. The phrases that they said during courting or just merely between two men in a bar. What I would always do is to read quotes from the book and memorise the way they say it and maybe… just maybe I could apply it in real life. Here are some of my favourites from the Kingkiller Chronicles:
“It is a word. Words are pale shadows of forgotten names. As names have power, words have power. Words can light fires in the minds of men. Words can wring tears from the hardest hearts. There are seven words that will make a person love you. There are ten words that will break a strong man’s will. But a word is nothing but a painting of a fire. A name is the fire itself.”
“If you want to know the truth of who you are, walk until not a person knows your name. Travel is the great leveler, the great teacher, bitter as medicine, crueler than mirror-glass. A long stretch of road will teach you more about yourself than a hundred years of quiet introspection.”
Oh, there is so much more quotes that I would love to share and I am literally feeling so excited just reading them. Oh, how much I love stories. I guess, one day, I would love to be a great storyteller too.
