Be you, always?

Be you, always.

Never try to be someone else, even for a moment.

But, here begs the question of what does it mean to be yourself?

Aren’t we all just the product of our environment and nurture?

Aren’t we all just a bunch of thoughts, ideologies and a few scraps here and there mashed up together?

How can we not be someone else if the only thing we know how to act is from someone else?

Babies and toddlers have the same disgusted reaction to things that their parents are known to be disgusted at. It is a learned reaction.

Thus, how do we separate who we are and who we aren’t?

I don’t know. I guess, just go with what’s natural to you.

Oh well, ultimately, I’m just a person with a thought and a blog.

I don’t really know the answer to it.

Maybe you can help me out.

Living forever?

If there’s one thing that I learnt from my modules in university, it is that it is really hard to live forever. Every attempt to live longer comes at a cost, every change –be it biological or chemical– will have their consequences.

Trying to extend our lives is a hard thing to do.

So, why does this matter?

Humanity has been trying to find the cure for ageing since the beginning of civilisation, from the Fountain of Youth to the Elixir of Life.

But, should we care about the length of our lives?

I mean, what’s the point of living till a 100 if we did not make any difference to the world or the people around us during those 100 years?

I think it would have just been a waste of resources.

Maybe, we should care less about the length of our lives but care more about what we actually do with it.

Ask, Ask, Question.

I love to ask questions.

And the contents of my blog reflect that.

I want people to really question the norm, to question the things that are around them. I want people to be able to adopt different perspectives, ways of thinking and to be curious. Because I feel that people are not really challenging or questioning themselves, their actions, or the world around them. And I believe that it is something that we have to fix.

The lack of questioning leads to the lack of self-awareness, a lack of curiosity, a lack of clarity, all of which will make our minds fogged up, unsure of the purpose and direction we need to steer our life towards.

In the history of this blog, I believe that I have brought up many ideas and perspectives. I’ve asked countless questions too, ranging from the meaning of life to relationships and I hope that it might cause some of us to start questioning and be curious.

All I can be is a catalyst to start the process.

So, start questioning, be curious, discover the vast knowledge that the world has to offer.

What Are Your Intentions?

I’m part of a committee in a society that deals with the spreading of the good of Islam. In that committee, almost every day, we are advised to make our intentions clear and ensure that it is right.

A good example would be the intention to enrol into university. If your intention is to graduate with a degree and learn as much as possible in university, that is a right intention whereas, if your intention is to party and have fun in university, that might not be right and thus, you might suffer the consequences.

Thus, I made it a habit to ensure that my intention of doing something is clear and proper and you should too.

Chasing an Education

Jobs are harder to find,

Degrees are rapidly decreasing in value,

Graduates struggle to make ends meet.

So, is there any purpose in pursuing an education?

Well, I believe that it truly depends.

In my case, I pursue an education because I am fascinated in the subject. I am curious about learning the inner workings of Biology and reaching a level whereby I am able to truly understand the complexities of Life.

I did not enrol into a university so that I can get a job in the future but because of the deep interest I have in the subject and I think that that should be the reason why we pursue an education.

At the end of the day, I believe that our intention matters because ultimately, you have to weigh the pros and the cons of getting an education. Is it worth it to spend thousands of dollars on an education that does not promise you a stable career after or would you rather spend that money to build something for yourself?

Sometimes, we make a decision to enter university because it seemed to be the right path to take but have we ever pondered if it is truly beneficial for us in the first place?

Stop letting that herd mentality affect you but find and truly understand the reason you’re chasing an education.

Degrees aren’t everything.

Your North Star

Many of us are wandering about our existence with no sense of purpose. We are like molecules colliding into one another, reacting. It is like we are just biding our time on Earth, existing for the sake of it. We go to school because we have to, we work because we have to and we settle down because we have to.

But is that the only way for us to navigate life?

Deep inside, all of us have that North Star that we are striving for, that goal that we want to achieve before we pass on.

But we buried it deep inside for a long time because…

We are afraid.

Afraid of the consequences that might come from failing,

Afraid of how stupid we might look,

Afraid of overestimating our own capabilities.

That fear deep within stops us from truly ever living life,

That fear that stops us from maximising our potential,

And that fear needs to be stopped.

Because remember, nothing great will come from flowing, colliding and just reacting.

And to achieve greatness one have to step out and put their minds to work.

Elon Musk created Tesla and SpaceX,

Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook,

Steve Jobs created Apple,

All of them had haters,

But they did it anyway.

They put that fear aside and did it anyway,

Because they had a North Star.

They have a goal that they want to achieve and they strived for it no matter what anybody say.

So, what is your North Star?

That ultimate goal that you want to achieve in the end?

The purpose of life is our North Star. It should be our prime motivation for everything that we do every single day. Remember, we live once and we can die at any time so, we better start chasing that dream now.
